Head of Non-Life Reserving

Job Description:
On behalf of our client, a leading reinsurer and NYSE listed company, we require an experienced actuary to oversee the Group Non-Life reserving function. The position is based in the Bermuda office and reports to the Group Chief Actuary.
The primary responsibilities will be:
- Oversee Group quarterly reserve processes and peer review of business unit reserve studies;
- Ensure actuarial best practices are maintained in the operating companies;
- Implement group reserving models and reserving analytics;
- Oversee database and report development of executive management reporting systems;
- Oversee quarterly consolidation activities relating to actuarial responsibilities;
- Discussion in the MD&A section of the 10Q and 10K relating to reserves;
- Interaction with external auditors;
- Management of third party actuarial reviews;
- Presentations to Executive Management;
- Manage a staff of up to three qualified actuaries.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Fellow of the Casualty Actuary Society (FCAS) or Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA) or equivalent qualification;
- Prior supervisory experience;
- Prior successful experience in the functions outlined above;
- At least ten years experience in (re)insurance or consulting with exposure to pricing and reserving;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Superior IT and management information skills;
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with leaders in functional and operating units.
Some travel will be required. First preference will be given to suitably qualified Bermudians or spouses of Bermudians.
